With more than two decades of engagement in standardization, Futurewei engineers, standards experts, and business teams have actively participated in and contributed to a broad range of Standards Development Organizations (SDO) including ISO/IEC, IEEE, ETSI, IETF, ANSI, ATIS, and INCITS, among others.

The IP standards team is tasked with leading and coordinating company IP standards strategy and participation in Standards Development Organizations.
The scope of this work includes IP-related protocols with a focus on the IETF and IEEE. In addition, the team provides thought leadership for IP-related protocols in the industry and with customers through expert-level technical engagements in various customer and industry events.

We work on the enabling standards for the end-to-end fiber optical network, which stretches from homes and businesses through the metro network to data centers. The standards development organizations we are most involved with are ITU-T SG15, IEEE 802.3, IETF, Broadband Forum, and ETSI F5G. We serve in many leadership and editorial roles, accelerating the production of high-quality international standards.
Our research covers the technologies used to construct the all-fiber network, focusing on transmission technologies used in access networks, and on total network management systems. These are critical to develop a healthy ecosystem where multiple vendors can sell interoperable equipment to the world’s network operators at an economical cost.

This includes understanding the operators’ current problems, creating novel efficient solutions, transforming them into standards, and demonstrating the results through publications and other market facing activities.

The Autonomous Networks Project aims to evangelize the vision of next generation automated, intelligent Networks/ICT infrastructure and business, and promote the industry collaboration ecosystem through thought leadership, partnership, Proof of Concept (PoC) and standardizations with various industry organizations, service providers and technology innovators.
Futurewei IC Research conducts basic research in the fields of CPU architecture design, graphics rendering, machine learning, optics, and material science. We propose and validate novel ideas in RISC-V-based CPU architecture, microarchitecture, memory systems, and their modeling to improve the performance, power efficiency, and area of next-generation processor designs. Our team carries out fundamental research in machine learning and AI, discovering and applying new algorithms for automated design space exploration, multi-modal data representation and learning, as well as efficient support for memory-intensive workloads, large models, and long sequences. We develop innovative approaches in real-time rendering and generative graphics, media, and vision technologies, including generative AI-driven graphics and AR/VR systems.In material design and optical & image sensing, we explore cutting-edge technologies and emerging research directions.
